Best Other Wine Websites

We love the feedback that BWU$20 subscribers give us about this website, but there are some other very good wine websites out there. We’re happy to share the ones we recommend.

1. Wine Review sites

The Winefront –  This is a pay site, but offers the most accurate reviews by Gary Walsh, Campbell Mattinson and Mike Bennie. Lots of reviews, lots of imported wines, all price groups.

James Halliday’s Wine Companion the big one, but the online version is an awkward thing to use. Very commercial these days, lots of offers from sponsors etc

Tyson Stelzer – He’s Australia’s champagne guru, but also reviews still wines. Subscribers get a weekly newsletter of wine reviews. Some free articles here

2. Interesting Wine People

Peter Bourne the Wineman – The wine educator and talking wine guide. Tastings, wine appreciation courses and more

Jefford on Monday – Andrew Jefford’s intelligent insights into the wine business on his Decanter Blog

Drinking out loud – Matt Kramer’s irreverent blog at Wine Spectator

Drinkster – Philip White’s off-the-wall and in-your-face wine blog

the key report  Tony Keys’ insights into the wine business down under

GLUG – This is the website of David and Richard Farmer, and it’s a treasure trove of pithy wine industry commentary going back a decade

3. Magazines

Gourmet Traveller Wine – glossy, you find the best writers here and interesting stories. Group tastings and new releases too.

Winestate – lots of tastings but bitsy and poorly organised

Decanter – Top British wine magazine

Wine Spectator – Top US wine magazine

WineBiz – Australian wine industry news, free daily email

4. Assorted sites of interest

The Collectionary – a fascinating site that showcases the beautiful, the unusual and the whacky aspects of wine bottles, corks, tools, books and more.

Yardsellr Wine Block the Facebook page that goes with the Collectionary
