1. Best Whites
Dandelion Wonderland of the Eden Valley Riesling 2012/2013 – $15 at ALDI. This was one of the top Rieslings form 2012, at any price, and the 2013 is in the same class – you may get either from Aldi online.
Claymore Joshua Tree Riesling 2013 – $16 at Kemenys. Classic Clare Riesling, limes and lemons, bursting with life, fine acid, line and length. Bargain
Bellarmine Pemberton Dry Riesling 2012 – $17 at Kemenys. Bigger and more forward with more fruit than some Great Southern Rieslings, real bargain.
2. Best Reds
Last Horizon Tamar Valley Pinot Noir 2012 = $18 at Winestar. Good colour, body and depth of soft flavour, great drinking and great value.
St Clair Pinot Noir 2012 – $18 at Dan M’s. This is a terrific Pinot Noir for the money: ripe cherries, plums and gamey flavours, good depth and length, supple and velvety. Let it breathe.
Hoddles Creek Pinot Noir 2013 – $20 at MyCellars. Stylish, complex, Burgundian. Virtually hand-made. Don’t know how Franco d’Anna does it for the money.
3. Best Sparkling
Dopff Au Moulin Cuvée Julien Crémant d’Alsace – $16 at Dan M’s. This brand is an exclusive line for Dan Murphy, and is always good value.
Bay of Fires Tigress Pinot Noir Chardonnay NV – $16 at Dan M’s. From Tasmania, made by the makers of Aras. Very nice for the price.
Cave De Lugny Cremant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs NV – $16 at Vintage Cellars. Made from Chardonnay grapes not far from Champagne, great value alternative.
4. Best Dessert Wines
Morris Classic Tawny 500ml – $17 at Dan M’s. If you’re looking for a classy, tasty tawny port, you can stop looking.
Morris Classic Liqueur Tokay 500mL – $17 at Dan M’s. Our favourite dessert wine, a standout and a super bargain
Bethany Old Quarry Fronti – $20 at Dan M’s. Lovely old Frontignac / Muscat from the Barossa. Tasty, clean and elegant. Very moreish.
