Best Sparking Whites

Hardy’s Sir James Brut De Brut – $8 at OurCellar. Very sharp price for a drinkable bubbly.

Lindauer Cuvée Brut – $10 at Dan M’sBeen with us for a long time, always a reliable cheap bubbly from NZ, and always great value.

Azahara Chardonnay Pinot Noir Nv – $10 at Winestar. This humble sparkling wine [from Deakin Estate in the Riverland] won a gold medal at the recent Decanter Awards. Creamy almond and stonefruit with a persistent finish, and all from fruit grown on a desert.’ Ray Jordan, The Weekend West, Perth, 28th July 2012. This is a wine that breaks stereotypes. There’s not only nothing cheap and nasty about it but it’s actually smooth, creamy and enjoyable. I recommended this wine to friends looking for a $10 bubbly for a big party, and they were over the moon. Love the label.

Lindemans Reserve Pinot Noir Chardonnay 2009 $10 at Winestar‘Certainly not the coarse or sugar soaked battery acid style you often encounter sub $20. Will develop and likely improve further over next handful of years too. Rated : 89 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

Yarra Burn Premium Cuvee Brut NV $13 at WSD. The junior bubbly from the big stable overseen by Ed Carr. Yarra Burn is owned by Accolade along with Aras, Hardy’s and countless other labels. Super value.

Blue Pyrenees Traditional Sparkling NV – $12 at Jack’s.  Haven’t tried it but it gets 5 stars from Winestate, worth checking out.
