I got a 6 pack of the Elefante magnums direct from the Australian distributor who advertised it last week via email/facebook. I opened it up last night. It’s definitely past its best. The missus who is one of those NZ Sauvignon Blanc drinking stereotypes thoroughly enjoyed it though. I paid $60 for the 6 pack inc. delivery, so I’m not complaining, but $14 per bottle? Not so sure it’s worth it at that price, especially as it’s under cork. However, I agree with your point Kim – for a not so discerning crowd that are looking for a reasonable glass of red that doesn’t taste of anything in particular, it’s a pretty good deal.
Thanks for the insight, Damo, I suspected as much. After all, this is a ready-to-drink red when released at 12 months of age. Magnums do have a fun factor though, which is what made me think of special occasions.
btw, I’ve stopped posting on Facebook – I just don’t have time to spare, so all the specials are now going on the billboard and into the weekly mailer.
